Jen's Home now!!!

Dear friends,

We rejoice with all of you in sharing that Jen was discharged from the hospital this evening from her Oncology ward, and is home now. We praise The Lord in this miraculous intervention and healing. She is on 2 antibiotics and a steroid to take care of the atypical pneumonia, without a definitive diagnosis.

Thank you for all your support and prayers.

Update on Jen from PICU - 19 Aug

Dear friends,

Thank you for your prayers and notes and acts of encouragement for Jennifer, as she is doing day 5 in the Pediatric ICU.

Praise to The Lord in answering several prayers:
- We have a good attending Doc and got started in the right assessment and plan of treatment
- she had a PICC line placed successfully to help alleviate the iv line issues
- she has been relatively stable through the day, with her respiratory levels in the 20s and 30s
- avoided the bronchoscope procedure for the day, which was deemed to be too risky now

Please pray for
- All respiratory levels to get better and be weaned off the C-PAP tomorrow
- Be able to take and keep down the 4 doses of oral meds/day which were started today for a type of Pneumonia
- Get we'll enough to start on oral fluids (they just started feeding her thru IV today after 4 days) and eventually some food (she says she is hungry :-(
- To be transferred out of ICU to regular room, or better yet, home !!

Isaiah 43:1
But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob,
and he that formed thee, O Israel,
Fear not:for I have redeemed thee,
I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

Jen still in PICU - Sunday night, 18 Aug

Jen took a turn for the worse this morning, quite suddenly!! They had to put her on oxygen using a c pap machine that is using pressure to push air into her lungs.  She has come down to 35% since this morning, but her breathing is still hanging around the 40s.  It needs to come down to 20 and  the oxygen dependency has to come down as well.  Her body also needs to respond quickly to the antibiotics and show improvement.  Tomorrow they are talking about doing a Bronch to get stuff from inside her lungs for cultures.  Intubation is still a threat on the horizon which we would like to avoid! Her fever has stopped today which is good news and we are praying the new antibiotic (her 5th) will tackle the strain of pneumonia.

Please pray for these needs as well as great wisdom and clear direction for the docs and us.  The floor attending doc will change for the week in the morning... Please pray for a good helpful doc to guide us thru this time.  The needs seem to be MANY but we know our God is able!

Prayers

Last night, after spending the day at the ER, I was admitted to the PICU pediatric intensive care unit. I had some coughing that led to breathing troubles. A chest xray and other factors currently lead the doctors to believe I may have pneumonia, which can be life threatening for me.

Please pray.....
for my fever to be gone
My heart rate to come down to normal levels
My breathing to get better
Normal results on the ECHO tests indicating NO heart trouble
my body to respond to all the antibiotics well
No other complications to develop
To be able to go home quickly

A New Hair Day

So one of my most widely read posts is "A Bad Hair Day". Well...since then I've gotten a totally new hairstyle! A little over a month ago, I decided I wanted a wig.  I've started the application for "Wigs for Kids" about four different times in the last two years, but I never followed through.  It ended up with my parents buying me a wig from a local wig shop, and I wish I had got one earlier!! I've had a lot of fun experimenting with different hair styles!

Here are a few pics of me at the wig store...

This is the style I ended up getting, except in black!

And here are some pictures with a couple of the different ways I wear my new wig!

A Final Surgery

So I hopefully will be having my final cancer-related surgery this Tuesday, the 13th, to remove my Mediport! I'm so excited to finally be able to say good-bye to what has almost become a part of me. Please pray that everything goes smoothly and quickly!

I've posted some pictures from my stay at the hospital when I had my biopsy!
This lovely big bear was waiting for me when I went to my room after surgery, a gift from my wonderful Child Life Specialist Lisa, and Art Therapist Michelle (note the duck tape slid up on his arm...) A lot of stuff to brighten my day!!

Sunday afternoon found my room very crowded, with my family and Sheilka and Vijimama.  Dad had brought some delicious Indian food, so we had a party in my room!

I've come a long way since...

All my many presents...
